I would name my museum "the Randomness" because that is what would be in the museum. I would definitely choose a location in one of the outer boroughs, preferably in a neighborhood that has not been gentrified because my target audience would be people who do not generally go to museums. There would be no entry fee and it would be near a major subway station/populated area. (The borough would probably be Brooklyn). My idea would be to set up a place where people were welcome to hang out, from the twenty-something coffee crowd to the angsty teenage crowd. I would have a snack bar and tons of couches throughout the space. I would also make it interesting by providing a section for children, perhaps a few jungle gyms and mazes throughout the inside so the young ones wouldn't get bored. The mission of the museum would be to attract the average person. If they come just to hang out that's fine but if perhaps they also happen to enjoy the art that would be a bonus. Since I would have unlimited funds the artwork would have to be the things that I like. I would include paintings and photographs from across the spectrum but would steer clear of the religious themed medieval art. While I enjoy sculpture I wouldn't want any floor space to be un-walkable so would probably stick to the 2-D art. I enjoy Van Gough, Jackson Pollock, maybe a little Picasso. As far as photographers I would have to include Larry Clark, Nan Goldin and perhaps some Carrie Mae Weems??? I would want relevant works, pieces that evoke certain emotions and memory in me and would hopefully have similar effects on the audience. Would just like it for people to have a good time, no stuffy security guards and a relaxed attitude. Special groups welcome.

  1. Well this sounds like a pretty great museum! I imagine the exhibitions would change often, and I like your description of the physical space.
Museum essays should be 400-600 words!
