Blog Post # 9 &10

Blog post #9

I’d be the first to admit that I chose this cluster due to the very attractive 3-Day schedule. But it’s safe to say that, during this course, I developed a new appreciation for art. Before a work of art meant almost nothing too me. But due to our daily dissection of works of art, I now somewhat understand art’s purpose. I realized that art is literally all around us. I now understand that it all depend on how the work of art makes you feel inside. Previously, I would sometimes understand the emotion that the artist is trying to express at an objective level. Now, I almost instantly get a subjective emotion. This course challenged me in unique ways. I never thought I would enjoy a trip to an art museum, yet I enjoyed every trip individually. I constantly surprised myself with my newly found interest. I recall one conversation I had with a friend, where we debated on who is the best artist ever. The name Picasso instantly jumped in my head. I remember my confusion after googling his work and seeing all this cubism art. I can now say that I understand that work more than I did then. I can say that for many artists now. Due to the work done in this cluster, I can make a connection with Georgia O’Keeffe and the female body, and Kandinsky and his sharp angular shapes, Van Gogh and his starry night and worn boots. I get it now.

Blog Post #10

I can’t really think of anything we missed. I feel that we covered as much as we could in the short time we had. I feel that all the material is we covered is useful and will continue to be useful in the long run. I feel that there was a great connection between all the classes and helped us further understand the work. I really enjoyed the fact that we got to see the artworks in person. We learned about Kandinsky, O’Keeffe, and Rembrandt and had images of their work displayed on the limited quality projector. This made our trips to The Met and The Guggenheim so much better, because we got to see work we saw on PowerPoints in real life. Also we somewhat learned why art is so overpriced. I enjoyed see all the queer overpriced works such as the big yellow chair and the big bloody cup. We always we taught something interesting, then shown real life examples. This was my favorite part of the course. The essay prompts always seemed so easy because we were so properly introduced to the work we were going to see during the trip.  I may add just one thing. I would try to have another teacher teach alongside you for an hour a week. We always saw Professor Albrecht and Professor Comins working together and it really made it feel like a cluster. I’m just being picky. But a lot of what we learned in your class helped us in our other classes making your class feel like a big part of the cluster, but at the same time your class didn’t seem like part of the cluster because we never see you with the other professors.
